چکیده
Background Myocardial fibrosis is associated with abnormal cardiac remodeling and poor prognosis in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Currently, new cardiac MRI (CMR) techniques such as T1-mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) measurement are available to quantify diffuse myocardial fibrosis. We analyzed the size of myocardial fibrosis using preand post-contrast T1, ECV and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in patients with HCM referenced to normal appearing myocardium and referenced to normal values of healthy volunteers.

Extracellular volume imaging by magnetic resonance imaging provides insights into overt and sub-clinical myocardial pathology.
AIMS Conventional late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance can detect myocardial infarction and some forms of non-ischaemic myocardial fibrosis. However, quantitative imaging of extracellular volume fraction (ECV) may be able to detect subtle abnormalities such as diffuse fibrosis or post-infarct remodelling of remote myocardium. The aims were (1) to measure ECV in myocardia...

BACKGROUND In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), autopsy studies revealed both increased focal and diffuse deposition of collagen fibers. Late gadolinium enhancement imaging (LGE) detects focal fibrosis, but is unable to depict interstitial fibrosis. We hypothesized that with T1 mapping, which is employed to determine the myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV), can detect diffuse inters...

AIM Cardiac involvement with progressive myocardial fibrosis leading to dilated cardiomyopathy is a major cause of death in muscular dystrophy patients. Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) measurement based on T1-mapping pre- and post-contrast promises the detection of early 'diffuse' myocardial fibrosis that cannot be depicted by conventional contrast-imaging based on late gadolinium enhanceme...

BACKGROUND Diffuse myocardial fibrosis, and to a lesser extent global myocardial edema, are important processes in heart disease which are difficult to assess or quantify with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) using conventional late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) or T1-mapping. Measurement of the myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV) circumvents factors that confound T1-weighted i...
